SPEECHGEARS’ JAW BITE BLOCKS (JBB) is useful in Jaw Stability and Jaw Grading.

Jaw stability is vital for speech clarity. A shaky jaw cannot produce a clear voice and errorless phonemes. A turbulent voice may result from jaw muscle weakness, weak coordination between muscle motors, lack of sensory integration, lack of regulation and erroneous jaw anatomy, and wrong habits (behavioural issues) during the child’s growth. Many of the CWSNs (Children with Special Needs) have profound oral & tactile issues, which manifest into biting and chewing issues. Gradually, they may adopt and develop bad habits and, hence, diverse oral muscle problems.

Vowels are pure sound energy which doesn’t require any obstacle from the tongue. A child produces different vowels through different levels of mouth opening and shapes that he makes with the help of his lips.

SPEECHGEARS proposes 7 levels in 3 separate blocks starting from level 2 to level 7. Level 1 is the closing position of the jaw and does not require any block.
